The following are rare, classic photos of Naked Portugi (Indo-Portuguese) Women and Erotica. Pornology: A Bit of History During the Era of Colonialism when the European powers partitioned India, the following regions existed: - Independance Princely States, comprising more than 500 independant kingdoms which did not obey the rule of the British Partliament, yet economically dependant on British India. British India - almost one-third of the Indian landmass was under the control of the Queen and the British Parliament. Portuguese India Other small European colonies - French Pondicherry etc. British India, under strict Victorian austerity, banned all forms of pronography, severely penalising both distributors and consumers under laws which still survive today. Worse still, they managed, through their ambassadors and `advisors' to outlaw such productions even in the technically independant princely states. The result was the complete suppression of the sex industry in virtually all of India. However, Portuguese India was legally and technically outside the control of the British Empire. Portuguese India, and specifically Goa, retained more liberal Renaissance-era laws and attitudes relating to sexuality. It is thus Goa which became the main distribution point, and later production center, of 19th century erotica in the Indian subcontinent. Immense quentities of erotica were legally brought into Goa from Europe - specifically the newly invented daguerrotupes and photographs, which occasioned an explosion in pornography in Europe. From here these works were smuggled into the British Indian empire and the Princely States. Indeed, many of the pictures above were made in France and Portugal. Such was the demand for these illicit goods that an entire industry sprung up in Goa catering to these needs. If you look closely at some of the photos above, you will find that many actually depict Indian women - sari-clad Ranis, high-class courtesans, and many women in a mixture of Eastern and Western fashions - hence the name Indo-Portuguese. The Victorian government launched frantic searches for these goods throughout India, destroying thousands of prints in the process. Those that survived did so in the semi-independant Princely States. It is from here that many of the photos above have come from.
